Daniel Colombo is a winemaker.
He makes wines that he wants to drink himself, but when other people like to drink them too then that is actually quite lovely. Daniel uses a style called minimal intervention which means his wines don't have lots of different things in them,
just grapes really.
He enjoys drinking wines that are fresh and friendly, so those are the kind of wines he makes.
I just called to say I love you
Grenache Gris 2021
Truly the the ugly duckling turned gorgeous swan of the vintage. A very slow ambient maceration and fermentation led to a considerable 15 months in old oak before bottling.
The result is a delicate, but delicious wine showcasing caramelised sharon fruit, tart citrus and thyme. Deep copper in colour and extremely moreish.

Olifants
Muscat D' Alexandrie 2021
The South African west coast has a special spot in the heart of Daniel. It is a place that has shaped him, spending many thirsty weekends in the sun, looking for waves, sitting by the fire and disappearing.
Picked from the banks of the Olifants river, this wine was made as a tribute to the west coast. Strongly influenced by the dry salty air, citrus orchards and fynbos. You'll find litchi, apricot and a touch of lime in your glass.
10 days of wholebunch maceration followed by 12 months in old french oak.

I wonder if you are lonesome tonight
Syrah 2022
Daniel is a thinker. He finds himself thinking a lot. And while thinking he thought about making this wine. A lighter style Syrah that reminded him of some other wines he tasted before, in his mind, but possibly in real life. It's hard to really know.
Grapes sourced from two special cool climate sites in Elgin and Botriver, treated gently and with respect. This wine treats the drinker in a similar manner. A soft guided complexity that carries you from nose to pallet. never pushing. never pulling. Just as it should be.
A series of different short macerations followed by 10 months in old french oak.
Like seeing you for the first time again
Skin contact blend 2023
As a big fan of history it was only a matter of time before Daniel had an idea about a wine. You see, some of our oldest and most interesting vineyards in South Africa can largely be attributed to the brandy Industry. Daniel likes brandy, but not as much as he likes wine. So he decided to make a blend from the grapes previously destined for the potstill.
A skin co-ferment of Colombar and Muscat d’ Alexandrie aged in old oak
There's something about you
Muscat d' Alexandrie 2023
Some things just happen for a reason. Daniel was looking for some new muscat vineyards up the west coast and as fate would have it he somehow managed to find the best one up there. Dinosaur vines that have been around for the past century, dotting a martian landscape. Not easy to get to and by no means convenient. It was perfect. So is the wine.
14 days of whole bunch maceration followed by a long slow press into old barrels. The wine has been kept simple and elegant as nature intended.

And from her lips she drew the Hallelujah
Chardonnay 2021
It seemed fitting for Daniels first wine to be made from the first crop of a young vineyard. A Hemel en Aarde Chardonnay, just 3 years old in fact. Roughly two weeks of whole bunch maceration followed by 12 months in old French oak barrels has produced a wine that is elegant and light on it's feet. A soft floral nose accompanies a saline palate that might remind you a bit of Hallelujah.
